Rochester Park Teen Snow Photo Session

Rochester Park Teen Snow Photo Session

We embraced the snow last week-end for a Rochester Park Teen Snow Photo Session!  This session made my hear sing!  Lilly, a Junior at Adams High School in Rochester is just the sweetest girl!  From talking with her she is not just sweet but smart too.  She already delving into a few different AP classes.  On top of all that she is just beautiful with beautiful blue eyes.  She joined me a fun time at the park, right after our big snow storm.  We were lucky to have some more gently falling snow for this portrait session.  Rochester Municipal Park is a great park any day of the year but it was truly magical this day!  Now on the hard part of selecting some favorite images to share with you!

I bet you can’t pick a favorite either!  I like the Squaw Valley they brought along.  It’s a shout-out to when they lived and skied out West.  I’ve had the pleasure of skiing at Squaw Valley as well, but only once.

Tween/Teen Dance Photography ~ Kyra

Tween/Teen Dance Photography ~ Kyra

teen dance photography photo session

I’m here today with a fun preview into an awesome teen dance photography session that I recently had with the sweet (and talented!) Kyra. Kyra is 12 years old (almost 13) and has been dancing now for four years. Since she started when she was eight, she worked very hard to get to the point where she is at right now. She practiced, and went to the dance studio four days a week, and all her hard work and determination has paid off, because she was just approved to advance into ballet pointe shoes.

She has been very dedicated to dance, and took all genres, from tap, jazz, hip hop and acro, to pre-pointe, ballet, and contemporary. She loves everything about the Eisenhower Dance Center, which is a good thing I suppose, since she practically lives there!  She is a member of the My Move dance company, and next year she will be in Collage. Being so actively involved in the dance scene has been such a great experience for her;  it’s paid off through her performances at The Macomb Center for Performing Arts, Varner Hall at Oakland University, and even a special performance this year at The Detroit Opera House.

I love the poise and dedication that dance classes teach to children. It really gives them a goal to work towards, and allows them to showcase their creativity. I really also believe that is builds confidence, as well as having command on the stage and an audience. It’s great watching her dance and meet the goals that she has for herself. The young teen/tween-age years are such a fun and exciting time in a child’s life, and I loved being able to capture some photos that really highlight Kyra’s enthusiasm for dancing.

If you have a child who has a special talent, I’d love to discuss doing a teen dance photography photo session with them, so that you have those memories preserved for years to come. You can check out some more photos of tweens and teens on my portfolio page. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into Kyra’s session.

There seem to be two types of photo shoots parents traditionally do for their children: newborn/infant and senior portraits. But parents want to capture their children growing at every stage of life and as a Rochester Teen and Tween photographer I am lucky enough to capture all those “in between” stages as well. For this session I wanted to photograph someone who I have watched grow right before my eyes and someone who is close to my heart as a mom: my daughter Kyra.

Kyra is twelve years old. She’s just coming into her own shell so she can be shy, but her personality is sweet and she, like most girls her age, is very talkative once you get to know her! Kyra is starting to really get into clothing and she’s just beginning to dabble into makeup. It’s such a wonderful time to watch her as she goes through so many changes, trying to find her footing in the world. It was fun to take some photographs of her as a Rochester Teen and Tween photographer instead of being just “mom.”

We did this session at the Van Hoosen Farm in Rochester. It was a beautiful day and we were able to get some great shots of her in her natural element. Being a Rochester Teen and Tween photographer I try to engage with the subject in order to bring out their individual personality, especially since that personality is really starting to come to life during this stage in their lives. This age is such an awe-inspiring time, but many parents find it passing by before they know it. It’s wonderful to have these memories to look back on- your baby is still a baby but you can just peek into the adult they are becoming.

I really enjoyed this time with Kyra both as her mom and as a Rochester Teen and Tween photographer. I hope that she will allow me to keep this tradition with her as she gets older!

Tween friend photo session!

Tween friend photo session!

What a way to commemorate a friendship, with a tween friend photo session!  These two girls have known each other since they were two and a half and five.  Boy, have they changed since those days!  They have spent a lot of time playing together as they grew.  These days hanging out together consists mostly of dressing up and creating dances together in the basement or backyard.  This summer they were in a big summer production of Beauty and the Beast together.  It was such a great experience for both of them!

Don’t you just love the sunflowers?  The perfect pop of color that went well with both of their outfits and just right for an end of the summer photo session at the farm.  Have you been to Van Hoosen Farm and Museum.  Such lovely grounds, steeped in history.  You’ve got to check it out.  VanHoosen Farm is also a great spot for a photo session.  Hint, hint!

Friendship Photo Sessions are a blast!  Each person is photographed on their own as well.  Here are the images from Carly’s friend photo session.  Stay tuned for Kyra’s images.  Are you ready for your Friend / BFF Photo Session?  They work great for senior photo sessions too!

Tween Teen photo session in Detroit, Rochester photographer

Tween Teen photo session in Detroit, Rochester photographer

Hey, a little late but what can I say, here is my Tween Teen photo session in Detroit with my kids!  I do make sure I take the time to do sessions with my kids at least once a year though!  This year we went to Detroit for the day.  I had been shooting at some cool spots that I thought my kids would enjoy.  We took them by the old train station.  I’ve been enamored by the place for years.  I used to love when the downtown in-line skating routes would take us by this old gem.

From there we went to the Z Garage.  I love all the different murals on every level.  It was so great to go to a place that even catches the attention of my teen age boys.  The boys each picked a spot that fit their interests and personality.  My daughter had fun too but I think the nature and small town sessions are more her thing.

And here is the one that made it to the wall!  I cherish the wall art of my kids and enjoy looking at them, past and present.  Boy, those years go fast!

Tween Diner Photo Session ~ Rochester Michigan

Tween Diner Photo Session ~ Rochester Michigan

What a fun Tween Diner Photo Session in Rochester Michigan!  My friend Stephanie of LemmonMade Photography was the stylist behind this awesome styled shoot.  She is also the brilliant mastermind behind the Detroit teen styled sessions that I took part in last year.  A small group of photographers joined in on the fun.  We started off at Red Knapp’s Dairy Bar and Diner for malts and of course – photo ops!  Bleu is just gorgeous, isn’t she?  She is a fabulous tween model!
